JOSEPH ADAM SMITH

My name is Joe, I grew up in the West Midlands. When I was 11 I first picked up a camera and I haven’t put one down since. I started making YouTube videos when I was 13, as a way of giving my filming and editing purpose.

After my GCSE’s, I went to college to study TV & Film. After achieving the highest result possible: Triple Distinction Star, I packed my bags and headed down to Bournemouth University to meet like-minded people and discover more about the film industry. My film course covered a wide range of modules, both theoretical and practical.

Within 3 weeks of graduating with a First, I moved to London to start a new job at a post-production house in Soho, then called The Farm, as a runner. Not 6 weeks into the job, I moved up to the position of Technical Co- ordinator. In this position, I was cross-checking finished products (TV and film trailers) to make sure they were pristine and also that the languages were correct.

I spent 8 months here until I received the opportunity to be a videographer on a cruise ship. Without hesitation, I got myself together and headed ob on my first contract. This was 77 days in The Kimberley Region of Northwest Australia.

Through university, college, and my London jobs, I was still finding time to do some freelance work. This meant my showreel not only had the ability to reflect my skills working independently (on the ships), but also as a team, bouncing ideas and developing skills with fellow professionals.
